Art & Antiques – November 2018
KIYOMI BAIRD’S abstract paintings evoke cosmic spheres that touch, intersect, and create new life. She says her works are created from the unconscious, in both the personal and collective senses of the word. Her palette can be cool blues and greens, or it could be glowing red. Either way, she leads the viewer into a joyous universe. Baird, a third-generation Japanese-American who is based in Santa Fe, studied in California, Germany and Switzerland and then spent time in Tokyo, where she connected deeply with Japanese culture and aesthetics.
A solo show of Baird’s work will be on view through November 21, 2018 at Walter Wickiser Gallery in New York’s Chelsea.
