Carlos Frias
Carlos Frias is a painter, printmaker, and musician currently living in New Jersey. He was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 1969. Frias attended Altos de Chavón and from there received his BFA in painting from Parsons Art School in 1993. While attending Altos de Chavón, Frias earned an artist-in-residence position, fellowship, and first place in Parsons Printmakers.

In 2013, Frias exhibited his prints and paintings at Segal Gallery in Montclair, NJ and at Therese Maloney Gallery at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ. In 2011, he was named The Printmaking Center of New Jersey’s artist-in-residence and that same year was chosen as one of six NJ Emerging Artists. He also had a solo show in 2011 at the Monmouth Museum in Lincroft, NJ. For his piece, Perpetual Refinement, Frias was named a finalist in the Pernod Absinthe Creator of Art contest.

Frias recently exhibited mixed media paintings in his 2016 solo exhibition at 73See Gallery in Montclair, NJ. His work was also included in the DreamBox exhibition at District&Co. in the Dominican Republic, as well as the Fiart International Art Fair at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Santo Domingo. Many of Frias’s prints and works in other media have been shown in exhibitions in the United States and abroad, including Venezuela, Japan, and Spain.

Frias has worked as a graphic artist and a production artist. He has also taught art to special needs children and to college students at his alma mater, Altos de Chavón.
